Scott Hurley

Over time I have learned that the best brands tell a story, and that stories are more powerful than plain old facts. It is for this reason I feel that the best way of conveying who I am and what I will bring to Select Resorts in reference to me as a brand, would not be through a short statement, but rather through a short story or time line.

2005 – I arrive at Bournemouth University and am amazed at the surroundings. My new home seemed to resemble that of The OC rather than ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ or ‘Emmerdale’ in which I had been raised.

2006 – 2007 – After spending the majority of the first and second term in my second year of study either in the gym or at the beach, I come to the conclusion that it is here and now that I need to start shaping my future if I want to leave a legacy….. It works; I have the grades to prove it!

2007- I get offered a placement with Sportingclass, sister company to the mighty Harlequins rugby club. On arrival I quickly understand the power of social networking sites as I’m quickly nicknamed ‘naked boy’ by England and British & Irish Lions star Ugo Monye due to my fancy-dress Facebook profile picture.

2007 – 2008 – Working in an ever competitive sports industry, and for a team with an abundance of personality traits and professional skills provided the perfect platform for my attributes to develop, walking away with invaluable experience.

2008 – 2009 – I return to Bournemouth triumphant in my endeavors, and manage to build upon the great relationships with colleagues and clients that I had collated into a greater network. This has proven to be vital in the success of being offered a role at such a prestigious organisation like Select Resorts and in particular provided a stepping stone to launch a career in a region that has been noted as having a low employment rate as of late.

On this journey of discovery I have learned…….

  • the power of social media networking
  • how to manage client expectations effectively
  • the importance of client relations in business-to-business markets
  • to cultivate selective ignorance to create time and mobility within my life
  • that you can always improve as an individual

 It is these ideologies that I will bring to Select Resorts
